Everlasting Hidden Treasure

In the poem ‘Psalm of Life’ the poet describes the feelings of a young man expressed to a palmist:

Tell me not in mournful numbers
Life is but an empty dream
For the soul is dead that slumbers
And things are not what they seem.

Then he further explains what life is:

Life is real, Life is earnest
And the grave is not its goal
Dust thou art to dust returnest
Was not spoken of Soul.

The Soul of ours is All Pure, All Powerful and is ever lasting hidden Treasure.

We are the end, we are our own Self and nothing else. All the Divinity is within us. For what is there to compare to our own true Self. Gurudev Shri Swami Vishvas Ji recites:

When each person is divine and Divinity is within, why should we bow our heads before any external deity or object. This Divinity within all of us is the everlasting hidden treasure to be explored.

The greatest help in search for this hidden treasure is MEDITATION (Dhyan). Meditation is not forcing the mind to be quiet. It is to find the quiet that is already there but hidden heavily under the layers of obstinate ego. We don’t start a struggle with mind. We just watch and watch the mind wakefully. Through uninterrupted observation and wakefulness we go beyond mind. In meditation we become non-doers.

We divest ourselves of all material conditions and feel our divine nature. We do not depend upon any external help in MEDITATION. Meditation is the nearest approach to Spiritual life. Meditation is one moment in our dark life that we are not at all material, the soul thinking of itself free from all matter – this marvellous touch of the soul- ever lasting hidden treasure.

This state of exquisite Bliss divested of all materialistic complexities is best described in Upanishads:-

“There the sun shines not, nor the moon, nor the stars, what to speak of this fire?”

The atman is self-effulgent. It is self-luminous. It is luminosity itself. It is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient. It is hidden treasure: Our main aim is its realisation. Dogmas, doctrines or churches or temples or books are the aids or helps but not the end. It is not what we read or what dogma we believe that is of importance but what you realise. “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.”

The realisation of God within a pure heart is the be-all and end-all of all religions. The highway for attaining that is Meditation. The power of attaining that realisation and freedom is within ourselves. We live in God, we move in God, we breathe in God. This is the hidden treasure that there is nothing but Divinity in this world. Gurudev Shri Swami Vishvas Ji proclaims.

Vain is thy search in temples or churches. That Self, that hidden treasure whom we were searching in churches or temples or forests or mountains is our own self.

“I am He” and “He is I”. None but I was God and this little “I” never existed. In the beginning the aspirant may find it useful to take help from external aids such as books, temples and churches but he must not remain confined to them. In the words of Swami Vivekananda, “It is good to be born in a church but it is bad to die in a church. It is good to be born a child but bad to remain a child.”

Books, Ceremonies, Churches, temples are good for spiritual babes but when the child grows, he must burst the church and little self. This little self i.e. the pony ego must be obliterated. We must feel God within ourselves and lift ourselves above the vanities of the world.

This feeling of God within ourselves provides us the strength we need to surmount all the obstacles that face us in the battlefield of life. All the Power, Strength and Succour is within us. What the world wants to-day more than it did before is Strength. Weakness is the cause of all misery and suffering. This Self, this hidden treasure, this Atma can never be found by weak.

The position of Strength is “I am pure and Perfect. I am He. I am He.”

I and my true Self live in the same street but due to veil of ignorance can’t see one another. This veil of ignorance is of MAYA spread by the restless mind which is compared to a maddened mind drunk with the wine of desire. So let us arise, awake and stop not till the ever – lasting hidden treasure of Bliss within you is not discovered through VISHVAS MEDITATION.
