A Miracle Medicine for the Mind-Body-Emotions

All said and done - no matter how toned, fit or strong you may be, sometime or the other we all fall prey to negative mind-states such as anger, reactions, ego, worries, grudges, feelings of loneliness and despair, that eventually lower our energy levels and stamina, and weaken our health. If the mind is not healthy & positive, physical health can never last! Here, Meditation acts as a miracle medicine, disassociating you from all unnecessary & unpleasant thinking, taking care of your mind, body & emotions all at once, bringing you into complete harmony and balance.

There are scientific evidences attached to it. Brain scans show that meditation shifts activity in the prefrontal cortex (behind the forehead) from the right hemisphere to the left. People who have a negative disposition tend to be right-prefrontal oriented; left-prefrontals have more enthusiasms, more interests, relax more, and tend to be happier.

(For more benefits, see link 'Benefits of Meditation')

Myth 2. Mediation distances you from worldly pleasures. The world no longer charms or interests a meditator.
Fact: Meditation is the Celebration of Life ! It is The Mastership! You handle and enjoy life, events and relationships much better with meditation.

Meditation adds charm to your Life !

And this charm is unconditional, deep rooted and unshakeable

As Swami Vishvas Ji says, "The outer material world has tremendous utility as it can provide the greatest comforts and facilities that are not to be condemned. Simply using it and not trying to own something that can be lost any moment is the ultimate secret to happiness."

The World of the Mind i.e. your mental world is full of worries, wishes, wonders, anxieties, expectations, disappointments, the who's, the why's and the why not's - a busy and noisy world that cannot be suppressed or ignored. Meditation is the inner cleansing that flushes out all unpleasant, unreasonable, negative and repressed thoughts that are detrimental, destructive and toxic to your happiness. Vishvas Meditation does not free you from the world. Rather, it frees you of illusions and unnecessary expectations of the world – restoring your balance, peace, love, joy and well-being that external circumstances cannot disturb.

Nonattachment with the temporary is the ultimate result of meditation as it brings you into the 'present', making you understand and accept the passing show of the material world - both personal and professional. Vishvas Meditation enhances your sense of acceptability and positivity. You begin to utilize positively and creatively all that Nature blesses you with, and yet not depend upon anything. Your sense of happiness is not conditional any longer. As a result, you begin to enjoy and cherish life much better!

Myth 3 : It is such a busy life! Where is the time to meditate???

Fact: Those who meditate have more time!

Meditation is Real Time Management

Meditation is the only process that is not demanding or time consuming! Just a few minutes of meditation is better than not doing it at all!

You will find a 101 reasons for not doing it, but you need only one reason to do it – do it for your health, happiness and balance - that should not get shaken or disturbed every now and then - in this busy, competitive, fast-paced and unpredictable life! Meditation does exactly this for you, and much more.......

There are busy, productive executives who have not missed a single meditation session in twenty-five years! In fact, the more time we spend meditating, the more time we actually gain! How? Meditation is a great re-filler of energy! It energizes, rejuvenates and refreshes your mind – body in a way that you begin to feel completely new! There are scientific tests done on meditators and the most amazing health benefits have been recorded. For instance, with regular meditation, the breathing and heart rate slows down, the blood pressure lowers, and the body decreases the production of stress hormones and other chemicals that speed up the aging process. Meditation develops a state of restful alertness that is extremely refreshing for the body and mind. As people become regular with meditation, they notice that they are able to accomplish more while doing less. Instead of struggling so hard to achieve goals, they spend more and more time "in the flow" – they become more productive, more creative and more energetic!

Myth 4 : Meditation is slow. It takes years to experience its benefits.

Fact: Meditation is pure fire! It acts like fire provided you are sincere with it.

The benefits of meditation are both immediate and long-term. As a matter of fact, meditation starts benefitting you from the very first session itself! Though you might begin to notice its impact in the first few days of daily practice. That is because we tend to believe that unless the change is big, there is no change! However, Rome was not built in day. The Grand is always built step by step! Every session of meditation has a scientific impact, and with regular meditation you begin to enjoy its benefits very soon. Many scientific studies provide evidence that meditation has profound effects on the mind-body physiology within just a few weeks! For example, a landmark study led by Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital found that as little as eight weeks of meditation helped people experience decreased anxiety and greater feelings of calm. It also produced growth in the areas of the brain associated with memory, empathy, sense of self, and stress regulation. The new meditators are often heard sharing their experiences that they are able to have a sound sleep for the first time in years, after just a few days of daily meditation. Other common benefits of meditation include improved concentration, decreased blood pressure, and enhanced immune function. (For more benefits, see link 'Benefits of Meditation')

Myth 5: Different Meditations have different techniques - such as concentration- visualization- recitation- breathing exercises etc.

Fact: All techniques are just mental exercises. Meditation is a state BEYOND MIND! Meditation has no technique. Meditation is your true nature.

Meditation is NOT Concentration. Meditation is a state of non doing- a state of inner watchfulness !

Simple watchfulness when turned inwards is called Meditation. Every human being is blessed with the 'third eye' to look within, just as we have the outer two eyes to look at the outer world. The moment we close our outer eyes, 80% of our energy starts getting conserved within, and we start witnessing inside automatically. This is when our third eye comes into play naturally, on its own! Whatever you get to witness inside - the thoughts, the emotions, the visuals, the memories, the imaginations - these are all projections of your mind. The material of the mind is like an unedited videotape. The One that is witnessing inside is your ' third eye', that Mother Nature has blessed us with! Hence, we do not require any technique, medium or support such as focusing points, imaginary images or mantras to enter within.

Meditation Vs Concentration

Here, we must understand that true meditation is a direct approach to the mind. Meditation should not involve any concentration technique or method, whatsoever. As long as you are giving your mind something to do, something to focus on- be it on any point, object, breath or any given word or 'mantra' - these are merely mental exercises that would keep you within the domain of the mind. Within the domain of the mind lies a mirage like state where you tend to feel that you have gained a little concentration, however that is very temporary. With so many distractions in the outer world, the concentration keeps wavering and eventually fades with the passage of time. Moreover, concentration techniques cannot bring about any behavioral changes or improvement in you. The mind is always in a state of doing – it judges, analyzes, condemns, concentrates, imagines, involves and focusses on people, places & things even when not required! It is this over-involvement of your mind in everything and everyone that has tired you enough and finally brought you to meditation. Now, if you continue to give your mind focusing points or concentration techniques in meditation also - you are further strengthening its habit of doing! You would never be able to rise above the dualities of your mind. Bliss, balance and lasting positivity comes from 'Beyond Mind' which is a state of total rest - where concentration techniques and mental exercises cannot reach. Only Meditation reaches there. As you watch & witness your mind, your thoughts - like an observer, a non-doer, a neutral energy- all mind's play begins to dissolve, all thoughts begin to drop - taking you Beyond Mind – the place where all powers exist - where all health, peace, energy and joy lies - and this place is unshakeable by external circumstances!

Meditation Vs Visualization

Imaginations are imaginations after all. They are make-believe. They are not real. Rather, they further distance you from reality! Your over imaginative mind has already caused enough suffering. Though it might begin with positive visualizations, but the mind ultimately gets into the habit of imagining things and later drifts to negative imaginations as well. The mind cannot filter once it gets into the habit of imagining! So if you continue to visualize or imagine in meditation as well, the entire purpose of meditation gets defeated, which is to bring you back to the 'present' moments that are more beautiful and powerful than any imagination in the world! The power of the present would amaze you once you stop imagining !!!

Meditation Vs Recitation

All such activities consume your energy. You should do only one thing at a time. When reciting- just recite! But when meditating – just watch – within! That's meditation!

It is so unfortunate that we do not ever make use of our third eye, the real reservoir of health and happiness, the actual source of all energy, the natural medicine bestowed upon us by the Almighty - to watch within – which ensures our good health, happiness and peace. Moreover, this medicine comes totally free!
(For further clarity, see link Meditation Vs Concentration)

Myth 6: Meditation is not for the worldly, ambitious or materialistic. It is only for the spiritually inclined.

Fact: Meditation is for everyone. We are all born meditators.

Meditation is Home Coming !

This process is like coming back to your real home after a hectic vacation.
You open the door, kick your shoes, sink into your favorite chair, close your eyes and know you are home at last!

Meditation is the very reminder of your true nature that you have long forgotton. A child is born with eyes closed, looking within. He is a witness to his inner world, inner being. The mind is not yet developed. He is in a state of thoughtlessness, living fully in present moments- a state so clear and uncluttered - a state of complete bliss, balance & health. He is in total Meditation! No wonder, his aura is so magnetic and appealing that everyone gets drawn to a child!

However, the child is unable to remain in this state for long. As the eyes open towards the outer world, there is no one to remind him of turning back within. Now the mind starts developing. The child accumulates all the thoughts, impressions, visuals and emotions from the outer world, which form his mind. The mind is an instrument to be used in the outer world for our betterment. However, with the passage of time, the child becomes so extrovert that he starts following his mind blindly. By the time he turns into an adult, he falls prey to negative mind-states such as stress, tensions, anxieties, panic, fears, doubts, depression, unnecessary judgements, grudges, complexes, comparisons, jealousies and all other dualities of the mind. So the same mind that was supposed to be utilized for our benefit, starts troubling us!

This is everyone's story. Irrespective of how well read, experienced or successful we may be, we are all victims of our mind. Unreasonable involvement in the mind's play is the root cause of all unhappiness, anger, ego and reactions. The mind is supposed to be your slave but it acts like a pseudo master (false master), because you have handed over your reigns to it - by obeying it blindly, by following it everywhere.

Meditation is home coming i.e. coming back to your original nature – which is to turn back within, watch, witness! This amazing process does miracles for you! As you continue with this process – the thoughts begin to fade, the mind begins to surrender itself, all conditionings of the mind begin to drop, all negative mind states dispel automatically, helping you regain your mastership over the mind. Then YOU rule! Eventually, your mind also turns positive. You no more struggle or suffer because of your thoughts. Rather you start utilizing the mind as an instrument, positively and creatively. Meditation makes you the Master of your mind.

Meditation is an inner cleansing

Develops total balance, health, fitness

Multiplies your energy, joy and peace by manifolds

Something that we all deserve, can achieve, provided we make ourselves available for it !!!

Posture & Timings

Meditation is a subject of Vibrations (alpha rhythms). Here, we talk about the Posture and Timings etc. that will help you maintain the vibrations and spiritual energy generated during meditation, speeding up your inner growth.

  Posture

  • Sitting in cross legged position is beneficial. This is called the circular posture that allows the spiritual energy called 'Chetna Shakti' to flow freely up the spine, which is an important aspect of meditation- it happens automatically in meditation. For those who cannot sit with legs crossed (due to pains, physical injury, backache or simply age factor) can use a chair as it will be more comfortable for them.
  • However, meditation in sitting posture may not be possible everywhere, as in school or at work, but that does not mean that you deny yourself its benefits. It makes work more enjoyable and enhances performance if you devote a few minutes to Vishvas Meditation during short breaks. For this, chair meditation is ideal. (For more details, read the article 'Chair Meditation').
  • You can even meditate while lying down in bed, making it more comfortable than the seated posture, especially for those who are not in the best physical shape. (For more details, read 'Meditation in Bed').

Timings

  • The two timings that are best for meditation are morning (before sunrise) and evening (during sunset).
    Swami Vishvas Ji explains,
"Meditation is a subject of vibrations-alpha rhythms. These are the timings when the cosmos has maximum vibrations and there is least effect of gravitational pull on your body, allowing the flow of energy upwards with greatest ease. However, if these timings do not fit your schedule, you will have to choose a time best suited for yourself. You may follow the basic guidelines of sitting before starting your day's work as that is the time when the mind is fresh and not cluttered with too many thoughts, or after the day is over as it will dispel all the tiredness that the body has gathered through the day - freeing the mind of unwanted thoughts, burden and worries."
  • However, it does not mean that you cannot meditate during the day. Of course, you can! You can even meditate before going to bed. That will help you stay connected with your origin, inner depths and inner consciousness, making you enjoy a sound and rejuvenating sleep. Meditation is the best medicine to enjoy a good night's sleep. (Also read article,'Meditation in Bed').
  • Time is the crucial factor. Ideally, your energy peak and your free time should coincide. In other words, it is better to meditate during times of peak energy. If you are in an energy slump due to exertion, you may just fall asleep. If that happens, do not get disappointed. It just signifies that you were in a tired state, either mentally or physically and needed rest. Meditation first dispels all the tiredness, providing you complete relaxation which may result in sleep. As you progress in meditation, you will gain awakening and energy.

  Duration

  • Adults can begin with 15 to 20 minutes twice a day or for half-an- hour at a stretch, depending on the comfort level. Children can start with seven to eight minutes twice a day. Gradually, increase sittings to 45 minutes, an hour in a day or even longer, again depending on your comfort level.
  • Instruct the people around you to respect your meditation time.
  • For a quick reduction in stress, increase the length of your meditation. Expand your awareness day by day. It will give more balance and harmony to your life.
  • A regular meditation routine is prescribed for people with health problems which are basically imbalances of internal forces.
  • Meditation at random times each day is better than no meditation, but it is not ideal either. A regular schedule is best for a calm mind and good health.

As Swami Ji states, "In the beginning, you may not know why it's important to meditate regularly. But  soon, you will realize what a wondrous thing it is!"

There is no limit to this amazingly vast subject. The more you explore, the more you procure. Vishvas Meditation is the most natural,  original and simplest form of meditation, having no side effects at all, as this meditation process is a non-doing state.

How to Meditate

To perform Vishvas Meditation, sit straight in a healthy, comfortable posture. Close your outer eyes and make awareness flow inside. The moment you close your outer eyes, 80% of the energy starts accumulating within and your third eye, which is the powerhouse of all energy, begins to witness inside. Keep looking whatever is rising from the surface of the mind. Don't use any imagination of your own. Don't get indulged in anything. Don't identify yourself with any thought. Just simply look at whatever is being displayed by the mind's computer.

Whatever your state of mind is, you simply watch. If there is total darkness or nothingness or the traffic of thoughts, you just keep experiencing all this. Don't impose any pressure or strength when you look inwards. Do not involve yourself with the thoughts. Do not relive the past. Do not create the future. Live in the present. As long as the mind is your master, it will never allow you to live in the present moment. For it has no existence there; it lives only in the past and the future. And as these are ultimately unreal, so is the mind. The only real existence is in the present. You are in the search of your True Self, who is neither the mind nor the body nor the senses, but above all of these. You are the Seer, the Witness. Simply remember this golden rule, the ultimate truth as you sit in meditation.

Mind is the scope of world. Mounds of thoughts arise from the surface of the mind. The world of good and bad thoughts hovers around the mind. When you turn inside, you simply watch like a neutral energy. Do not participate or involve in any thought- positive or negative. Do not choose or prefer any thought. Do not judge or analyze any thought- however good or bad. Do not suppress or condemn any thought. Do not attach, bend or mend your mind. Do not punish your mind or try to stop it. In other words, do not indulge in any activity. All these efforts will cause stress and create tension. The more you try to persuade your mind, the more it will revolt. Instead, simply watch the mind's activities. Do not disturb or interfere with the mind's traffic. Do not develop any identification with it. Never try to achieve concentration while meditating. It is going to happen by itself. Over the years, meditation has been considered a technique of concentration by the majority of people. Vishvas Meditation is not a process of concentration. You do not have to get fixated or focused at any particular point. All the techniques of concentration are unnecessary in Vishvas Meditation. You do not need a medium to step inside. If you try to concentrate, you are again making your mind do something. Vishvas Meditation is a state of non-doing where there is total rest, where there is no mind. It is the source of concentration. The flame of concentration is illuminated within by itself. When you close the outer eyes, 80% of the energy that was flowing outside begins to accumulate inside. This energy will then, eventually bring all your awareness to the third eye- the inner eye. Keep watching whatever is going on inside- from a distance. Keeping a little away from the mind, become a true witness of the mind. The mind does not have any energy of its own. In your power, in your energy, it works. You are like a sun-shining inside. It is your nature to live by watching and witnessing. When you see the thoughts with the inner eye, all thoughts diminish forever. For, the power of the mind is detracted from each thought and you reclaim the mastery of your being from your mind. Rejoice! Yearn for this eternal moment in the union with God and feel the magnitude of the supreme existence. Get deeper. Get more deeper....

Let's summarize the process...

  • Sit in a relaxed posture. Make sure that your spine and back is reasonably straight. Try to sit relatively still.
  • Now gently close your eyes and bring your awareness to the eyes and forehead area.
  • Softly gaze what ever is happening in front of your closed eyes. There should be no pressure on your eyes when you look inside.
  • Do not visualize or imagine anything on your own. Simply watch continuously what ever is occurring inside. Become a witness, a seer of inside.
  • Now thoughts may start to come. Don't flow with the thoughts. Simply be aware of the mind's magic. Don't try to stop the thoughts or keep any identification with them. Just watch the thoughts, concerns or desires that are arising inside. Watch the thoughts from a distance. Many times you may get swayed by the mind, but gently bring yourself back and keep looking on.
  • Go deeper and deeper inside with a softness without any direct effort and constantly watch what ever is happening inside.
  • Do not indulge or get lost in the thoughts. Simply be aware of the mind's magic.
  • Remember that you are a seer, a witness. Keep a distance from the mind and the more you detach form the mind, the more happier you will feel.
  • Sit in your own real nature and don't impose any thing from outside. Initially the mind may produce more and more thoughts. But don't get frustrated. Keep courage and don't put any pressure. Keep looking inside. By looking all that is unnecessary will drop on it's own. You don't have to do any thing. Just simply enjoy the present moment as it is.
  • Accept what ever is happening inside and don't try to change any thing.
  • Only watch and do nothing else. Live in the present moment. Don't interfere or flow with the mind. Keep watching what ever is going on inside - from a distance. Keep a little away from the mind. Just become a true witness of the mind.
  • Mind's circumstances are not your circumstances. Mind has the ability to go into the past or future, you cannot. So don't identify with the mind.
  • The nature of the mind is to do something all the time. Don't try to change the nature of the mind. All you have to do is to just watch it.
  • When you first sit to meditate, you will probably notice your thoughts or mind jumping around from here to there you might begin to feel anxious, thinking you can't possibly do it correctly. Or, you may become bored. Really bored! Don't worry. you are not doing anything wrong. This is the part of the process, to witness your mind at work and your consciousness as it frets, changes, and gets bored. Just keep observing. Don't judge. and, most of all, don't give up, get up, or give in. keep at it. Meditation requires practice, time and cultivates patience.

Is Meditation for Me

People often have queries regarding their Lifestyle, Wardrobe, Eating Habits, Age Limit, Posture in meditation, Best Timings for meditation etc. Here we clear all your doubts.

Age Limit / Lifestyle / Wardrobe / Eating Habits

Vishvas Meditation, as propagated by Swami Vishvas Ji is a natural, simple, secular and a very scientific process, having no side effects at all.It is meant for all- irrespective of age, caste, creed, sect, religion, color, background, status, lifestyle or eating habits.

There is no suppression or discrimination in the world of Vishvas Meditation

Vishvas Meditation can be taken up by everyone and equally benefits everyone:

  • Whether you are a child, teenager, an adult or a senior.
  • Whether you are a student, an athlete, artist, teacher, writer, scientist, sportsman, or a simple housewife.
  • Whether you are looking for a deeper meaning in life or just a healthy, stress-free life.
  • No matter what your lifestyle, profession, eating habits or wardrobe is - you can be a vegetarian or a non vegetarian, you can practice it in your blues jeans, t-shirt, Nike shoes, bathrobe or a business suit! You do not need to suppress or repress your lifestyle, eating habits etc. in order to take up meditation.

Let meditation do for you what you cannot

Swami Vishvas Ji explains, "Suppression is a Sin in Life! The moment you suppress yourself of something, your mind begins to crave for it all the more. Such is the nature of the mind. Remember, meditation is NO struggle with the mind. Meditation is not suppression. Meditation is self- awakening and awareness. Simply ADD meditation to your life and all the other qualities will automatically follow. Let meditation do for you what you cannot!"

Vishvas Meditation is not about Suppression, Conversion or Change. Vishvas Meditation is about Transformation.

Meditation is a subject of Vibrations (alpha rhythms). Here, we talk about the Posture and Timings etc. that will help you maintain the vibrations and spiritual energy generated during meditation, speeding up your inner growth.

Do's and Dont's

Meditation is not Bookish knowledge. Meditation is a subject of Vibrations. Meditation is LIVE !

Meditation is God's grace, Guru's grace. It is to be shared, not to be sold. Meditation has no package deal. It is not a commercial commodity of the market. Meditation is a subject of Vibrations, not bookish. It cannot be achieved by merely reading books. Meditation is a practical subject.

Here we mention certain facts about meditation that will ensure a successful journey within.

  •  Never evaluate, judge or analyze your meditation. Expectation is a big hurdle in meditation. Seeking is the subject of the 'Future'. The entire purpose of meditation is to bring you into the 'Present'.

As Swami Ji states, "The Past is gone, the Future is unknown. So act, act, act in Present."Vishvas Meditation opens up an eternity in the 'Now'.One must embrace the present moments rather than looking for future benefits. Meditation for the sake of meditation will help you to get rid of all unnecessary and negative thoughts.

  • Never compare your meditation with that of others. Everyone is a winner in meditation which is a highly personal journey of self-discovery. The purpose of meditation is not to accomplish things but rather to realize our true nature. Vishvas Meditation softens the "Winner/Loser" aspect of competition, guiding you towards self improvement.
  • Group meditation is better for beginners.

Swami Ji explains, "Group meditation has more vibrations. There are various therapeutic benefits of group   meditation. However, that doesn not mean that you cannot meditate individually. Do not worry about things you cannot control."

  • When you meditate, a lot of vibrations come out of you. Using a mat/blanket made of pure silk or wool will retain these vibrations. Silk and wool have such properties. The mat should not be of any cotton or synthetic material and it should not be shared with others, as we all have different vibrations.
  • Keep your spine straight when you meditate, as it keeps the energy in circulation.
  • Breathing has no role in natural meditation. Vishvas Meditation is the easiest and most natural form of meditation where you simply make no efforts at all. Just keep breathing without paying any attention to your breaths.
  • Meditation at random times each day is better than no meditation, but it is not ideal either. A regular schedule is best for a calm mind and good health. In the beginning, you may not know why it's important to meditate regularly but soon you will realize what a wondrous and beneficial thing meditation is.

Swami Vishvas Ji prescribes a regular meditation routine for people with health problems that are basically imbalances of internal forces.

  • If it is necessary for you to place a limit on the time you spend in meditation, then it is advisable to set an alarm, so that your thoughts are not preoccupied with time.
  • Do not get disappointed if you fall asleep during meditation. It just signifies that you were tired and probably required a nap to rest your mind. If the mind-body is in a tired state, meditation first dispels all the tiredness. This helps the meditator gain relaxation and develop interest in meditation. Then, meditation starts working actively. As you progress in meditation, you will gain awakening and energy.

Meditation energizes you, strengthens your willpower, gives you balance and suffuses you with bliss. It's a wonderful tonic for good health. Develop concentration and contemplation, right thinking and relaxation through Vishvas Meditation.

REMEMBER

The quality of one's existence is one's own responsibility. Transform yourself first and then you can change the world around too!
