Not yet, not yet

In Mahabharata, there is described an incident that once a petitioner came to the palace of king Yudhishthira with a request. He was asked to come next day as the king was busy. Upon that king’s brother Bhima started ringing the bell loudly and continuously. In those days, that bell was rung when a territory was conquered or the enemy was vanquished. Every one was bewildered at the sounding of the bell because neither the new territory was taken over nor the enemy was vanquished.

When the sounding of the bell continued for some time, king Yudhishthira asked his brother why he was ringing the bell. Bhima replied, “My brother has got great victory which great saints or rishis or munis could not get. None of them could be sure whether they would see the next day or not. You have asked the visitor to come next day as you have got victory over time and you are very sure that you and the visitor would certainly see the next day.”

God’s voice hums in our heart, “Won’t you love Me, the Giver more than the things I have made for you. Won’t you seek Me”? But we say, “Not yet, not yet. We are too busy now. We have work to do. We can’t spare time for you.” And the Lord says, “I will wait.” He will and He had waited for centuries, for times immemorial but we have been repeating parrot like, “Not yet, not yet.”

Then, alas! The stipulated time is over. An extra second won’t be awarded. God’s grace knows no bounds but not in matter of granting more time. This human life has a short span. It is given to us on uncertain lease, which can be terminated at any time without notice. Death keeps no calendar.

Human life is a great boon bestowed upon us. Its sole purpose is to regain our lost kingdom and once again merge into the Flame or Jyoti, which is shining within all of us. We have not even lost it. It lies within all of us. The kingdom of heaven is within.

भीखा भूखा कोई नहीं सब की गठरी लाल
अपने को जानत नहीं, ताहि विधि भये कंगाल

So we must arise, awake and stop not till the goal is achieved. We must not go on repeating, “Not yet, not yet.”

This human life is like a wall of mind that may collapse any moment. It is like a piece of thin glass that a little gust of wind can shatter. It is like a goat skin filled with air floating on a river which would sink to the bottom if the air goes out of it. Swami Vishvas Ji reminds all of us in his celestial voice.

ऐ वक्त गुज़रदा जांदा ए, हर इक नूं रोज़ जगांदा ऐ
पर लखां विच्चों कोई विरला मुल वक्त दा पांदा ऐ

Time is fleeting with a warning that it is passing and once it is gone, it is gone for ever but one in million values this most valuable TIME and doesn’t let it waste away by saying “Not yet, not yet”.

A wealthy person went in his luxury Mercedes to enjoy the beauty of Kashmir – a paradise on earth. His driver was driving the car. The car broke down when they reached Jammu. The driver tried to fix it but the car won’t start. The car was taken to the garage where the visitor learnt that it would take some time before the car was put on the road. So they had to stay but the tourist was afraid of snowfall due to which all the roads would be blocked and he won’t be able to visit the valley.

Time was spent in getting the vehicle repaired and there was snowfall and all the roads were blocked. The traveler was doomed to disappointment. Exactly similar is our position. We spend all our time in looking after the body – the vehicle and never care for the traveler who is imprisoned in this cage.

We go on saying, “Not yet, not yet” and then the Snowfall of inevitable comes and we are stranded and bewildered like a blind man in a fort with all doors closed except one which we miss by saying, “Not yet, not yet”.

Make hay while the sun shines. Devote time to your own true Self to know who you are. Are you the roaring lion or bleeping sheep? You put all energies for others for this external world which is not eternal and which is not yours at all. Spare some time for the internal world which is yours and which is bliss and which is eternal. Search for the hidden treasure, which lies buried under the layers of mind. Mind is the agent of negative powers. It always tries to keep us away from the hidden treasure. It completely conceals the Inner Reality. “Not yet, not yet” is its language. All the discord and dissensions in the world are due to the mind.

This very mind becomes ‘no-mind’ in meditation and you go beyond mind and enjoy the ever-lasting bliss, peace and tranquility in meditation. We don’t have to leave the world. Live in the world but don’t let the world live within you. Don’t leave the market place but bring Lord in your market place. Do devote time to MEDITATION now before it is too late. Don’t say, "Not Yet, Not Yet!"
